Family Tree
this is the chap I need help for

John Wibberley on his sons marriage certificate he is listed as
Master Tailor R.G.A I am presuming this is Royal Garrison Artillery.
I know he was in Queenstown Cork Ireland between 1888 to 1897 as 5 of his children are born there.
John's last child was born 1899 Ceylon Sri Lanka
this is John's death

Name: WIBBERLEY, John
Station : Trincomalee
Country: Ceylon (Sri Lanka)
Year: 1899
Page: 448
Age at death: 33
Record source: GRO Army Death Indices (1881 to 1955

When John's wife Sarah came back from Ceylon as a widow the 2 eldest boys were put into
All Saints Boys Home Lewisham London and
Duke Of Yorks Royal Military Asylum Hampshire

So my questions are
What were the R.G.A doing in Ireland and Ceylon ?
What did a master tailor do in day to day life ?
Would Sarah have some sort of widows pension ?

I would be very grateful if you could shed any light on this

thank you for reading

Quoy

To answer a couple of your questions:

1. What were the RGA doing in Ireland and Ceylon. - Manning Coast Defences in what were known as Defended Ports.
2. What did a master tailor do in day to day life - Exactly the same as in civvy street, tailored and mended uniforms.

Regards the pension for Sarah, afraid I haven't a clue, you could enquire at Firepower the RA Museum on research @ firepower.org.uk

Hope this is of some use.

Phil
