Gnr Clifford Lorring 25 RA only arrived in Belfast on Saturday, just 18, he whent on his first patrol, a VCP on Sunday and was shot in the head, most of us had never even had the chance to meet him but we were all shocked by his loss. That was on the '71 tour.
Gnr Paul Jackson was our regimental photographer,I spoke to him in the morning, went off to do my thing as he went to do his. Coming back to the barracks later we were told about his murder by bomb, I could not believe it , had to go through to his room to see what the score was, the bare bed frame and empty locker said it all.
Still remembered.

I cannot get to the memorial trees at Lichfield but last year,Onion ( NIVA ) took some photos and sent them to me for the 2 lads we lost during my tours,'71 and '72. It really moved me, one day I will pop back over there and see for myself.

On my second tour we had a lad accidently crushed to death by a scooby on the Crumlin Road whilst clearing a riot area. It was June 1979 and the lad was Gnr Pete Clark of P battery, 5th Reg RA. As far as im concerned he was killed in action but ive not found anything written about it. Can anyone help?

If you can get on to the site there is a mention of Ginge on the NIVA site, it was 1980 though, and if my memory serves me well it was after June?
He came back of R & R and went out as a stand in on a patrol as they were one short, he was the last man out of the PIG closing the doors and the scooby slipped it's brakes, rolled forward and crushed him between the bucket and the doors of the pig.
Very sad and tragic end to a very well liked bloke.

yes your right my memory isnt as great as i thought i guess. I remember the great feeling of loss to both the battery the regiment and to myself at the accident, One local idiot made the mistake of laughing within swinging distance of Kev Williams and suffered badly for it at the time.
